Welcome to our new Junior Infants......

Brideswell N.S.

Brideswell National School is a three teacher school, situated in south Roscommon, approximately 10 km from Athlone town. The school is at the heart of our community and the children participate in all parish and school events, thus instilling in them a strong sense of community and belonging.

The school was originally built in 1901, extended and refurbished in 1994. In 2009 a new classroom was built. Our school is now a modern comfortable building, consisting of three classrooms, a learning support room, a staffroom and office.

Carmel Kelly is the Principal of our school. The present members of the Board of Management are Fr. Hugh Lee, Fr. John Cullen, Carmel Kelly, Alison Hannon, Linda Walsh, Enda Fallon, Carmel Grehan and Liam Dolan. We also have a very active and co-operative Parents’ Association.

There are three class teachers, a shared learning support and a fulltime resource post. Carmel Kelly teaches the junior classes. Majella O’Connor teaches the middle classes and Demelza  Muldoon teaches the senior classes.

Joan Gilligan, Doreen Walshe and Alison Hannon are our Special Ed teachers. Michelle Kelly is our SNA. Andrew Ely is our caretaker. Helen Macken is our part-time secretary.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the school is as follows:-

Gaelige, English, Mathematics, Religion, SESE (Social, Environmental and Scientific Education, including History, Geography and Science), SPHE (Social, Personal and Health Education), Art, Music, Drama and Physical Education.

School opens at 9.20 a.m. and finishes at 3.00 p.m. The school is wheelchair accessible.

School Facilities

We have a separate playground for infants with a soft spongy surface and attractive equipment. There is also a large tarmacadam yard where children can play basketball, tennis and yard soccer.

Behind the play shed lies a large playing field. Here the children play gaelic, soccer and tag rugby.

Our school has already been awarded  four Green School flags and we are presently working hard to obtain our fifth flag - Biodiversity. All the children are lucky to experience learning in our outdoor classroom and planting in our school garden.
